Our Vineyards
This is where the story starts each season.
Our vineyard team works nonstop year-round to create the outstanding fruit that makes Blustone's exceptional lineup of wines year after year. Our vineyard management team spends countless hours with each grape across our portfolio of properties to ensure only the best fruit makes it to the crush pad.
Our vineyards are located near the 45th Parallel North – the same latitude as the Bordeaux and Rhône wine regions in France. We've learned there's nothing quite like the trademark Leelanau sunshine and temperate Lake Michigan climate to create such optimal growing conditions.
Estate Vineyard
The vineyard that started it all. Our Estate Vineyard sits on a 40 acre plot nestled away on a small road in the middle of the Leelanau Peninsula. Along with being the location of our Estate Tasting Room and vineyard management operations, this vineyard grows several varietals including our Alsatian and dry white wines as well as our Pinot Noir and Merlot fruit. It's excellent sun exposure and crested elevation give the later optimal growing conditions. Significant minerality from glacial deposits as well as a temperate climate nestled between Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay (along with Lake Leelanau to the west) help moderate temperatures.
Bella Fortuna Vineyard
The Bella Fortuna Vineyard is tucked into a south-facing hillside along the northwest end of North Lake Leelanau – less than a half mile from Lake Michigan. It's natural slope keeps it frost free in the early springtime allowing the cold temps to roll down the hill and keep the fruit safe. This vineyard provides the Prosecco fruit which is found in our cult-favorite "Blu Secco" sparkling wine as well as a significant amount of Pinot Grigio.
